Key People

The CCF Board of Directors is ultimately responsible for all organizational activities.  The board consists of Vendor Directors and Operator Directors, and matters before the Board can be approved by a dual majority vote. The board also includes an Observer Director from the CDMA Development Group, and an Authorized Test Facility Observer which the CCF works with closely. The following are the current Board members, as well as additional key members of the CCF team.

THOMAS J. ERICKSON, President and CEO - QUALCOMM
Thomas J. Erickson is President and CEO of the CDMA Certification Forum and co-chair of the CTIA Certification Program CDMA Working Group, which defines technical certification requirements for CDMA devices for the U.S. market. Mr. Erickson is also Vice President of Product Development in the Engineering Services Group at QUALCOMM where his efforts focus primarily on transferring CDMA technology to help the industry bring innovative products to market. Mr. Erickson has more than 20 years experience developing and implementing test solutions for products ranging from CDMA handsets to cryogenic launch vehicles.  He holds a Master of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.

  

TRACY GRIFFIN, Chairman of the Board of Directors - SIERRA WIRELESS
Tracy Griffin is the Manager of Test and Certification for Sierra Wireless. He is responsible for certification and technical account management for North American CDMA, Wimax, and LTE carriers. He represents Sierra Wireless in standards forums such as 3GPP2 and CCF. He has established leadership positions in multiple working groups within these organizations.

Mr. Griffin has 14 years of industry experience and holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Dallas.

 
 PAUL HAMPTON - QUALCOMM

Paul Hampton, Director, Product Management at QUALCOMM, serves as Chairman of the steering committee. In this role, he leads the group through the development and publishing of current and future test plans. He is past Chairman of the CCF Certification Working Group.

Prior to joining QUALCOMM’s product management team, Mr. Hampton led strategic product development at BVRP Software and directed quality management at GTRAN Wireless, QWEST Wireless and US WEST NewVector Group, developing industry benchmarked processes used throughout the product lifecycle of cellular terminals.

 

HENRY HSIN -VIA TELECOM
Henry Hsin is the Integration and Test Director at VIA Telecom, Inc., and has more than 25 years of industry experience, including over 16 years in wireless handset development, integration, and end-to-end applications testing. Mr. Hsin has been responsible for system-level development and applications testing of CDMA2000/EVDO handsets and modules based upon VIA's baseband chipset.

Prior to joining VIA Telecom, Mr. Hsin managed the system integration team within the marketing organization of CommQuest, which was later acquired by IBM. In this role, he provided customer support for their GSM and AMPS system solution. Earlier in his career, he was involved with RF testing of CDMA handsets at Nokia Mobile Phones. Mr. Hsin earned his Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University and his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington.

PETER M ZERNICK - U.S. CELLULAR

Peter Zernik is Senior RF Planning Engineer and is responsible for leading the definition of new handset requirements and tractability to field and lab testing.  He supports every System Performance and RF Engineer, deploying new technologies, activation of new features, field testing, and problem resolution related to both handset and RAN infrastructure.  He is deeply involved in technology evolution, capacity planning, data/voice forecasting, and network expansion.

Prior to his current position, Peter Zernik worked at Qualcomm for 8 years as part of a test team to commercialize Qualcomm CDMA technologies (QCT) chipsets supporting CDMA2000, 1xEVDO Rev 0, EVDO Rev A, EVDO Rev B, and other related features/technologies. He supported interoperability and field testing with CDMA RAN vendors, deployment trials, and lab/field testing with device OEMs.   He began his experience in 1995, consulting to major CDMA operators, such as PrimeCo Personal Communications, during the first and largest wireless phone service launch in U.S. history.

He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.

 

ALEX TKATCH - SPRINT
Alex Tkatch has been a Device Development Engineer and Certification Expert at Sprint Nextel Corporation for more than 10 years. He has extensive knowledge in Handset and Network RF design, Radio parametric, Signaling conformance, Network Interoperability and Radiated performance (antenna testing) for CDMA, WiMax and LTE.  He has experience in all stages of the mobile phone design, industry testing, wireless standards, final service provider certification, as well as in budgeting and development of the commercial grade telecom certification systems and processess.  He is also an SME for CTIA and CCF.

Prior to working for Sprint, Alex worked at Maxon America and was responsible for the CDMA Dual band handsets & WWL design, testing and pre-production supervision (USA and South Korea).
Education: Belarusian State University – MS in Physics of Semiconductors.

C. RAJ KHANNA - ROHDE & SCHWARZ
Raj Khanna is a Technology ManAger with Rohde & Schwarz, responsible for standardization and certification activities within the CDMA community. In his current position, he Collects technology development requirements across the company and works with customers and business partners to build support for current technologies and enable future ones on Rohde & Schwarz products.
Prior to joining Rohde & Schwarz, Raj worked at a major US operator working with wireless (RF network design & optimization) and wireline networks (switching and last mile access). He holds a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Kansas.

 
 

JAMES PERSON - CDMA DEVELOPMENT S GROUP (CDG)
James Person, a 20-year plus veteran of the telecommunications industry, is the Chief Operating Officer of the CDMA Development Group (CDG), an international consortium of companies who have joined together to lead the adoption and evolution of 3G CDMA wireless systems around the world. In this role, Mr. Person has responsibility for CDG’s strategic and technical programs.
Prior to his role with CDG, Mr. Person was Vice President of International Sales at Copper Mountain Networks, a provider of IP-based broadband communications products.
Earlier in his career, he established QUALCOMM’s Southeast Asian office and helped to bring the first CDMA networks to Africa, throughout Asia and into Australia and New Zealand. Later, while based in Europe, he worked with 3G organizations on the continent and continued to promote CDMA technologies.
Mr. Person earned his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an International Master of Business Administration from the University of Southern California.

CHAIR - ASIF HAMIDULLAH
Asif Hamidullah is the Chair of the Technical Working Group (TWG) at the CCF. In this capacity, Asif is driving both the short & long term technology roadmap, and testing solutions for the CDMA industry. Asif has over 10 years experience in the telecommunications industry. Most recently Asif has been involved in providing strategic consulting services to the CDMA Development Group (CDG) under their Device Initiatives program. Prior to that Asif was managing the Device Strategy & Planning team in the Chief Technology Office of TELUS Communications, where he was involved in defining the overall handset strategy for TELUS. Asif also held several roles overseeing device and service development & realization for TELUS, and was also the Technical Chairman of the Global Handset Requirements for CDMA (GHRC) team and Co-Chair of the Device Strategy Council within the CDMA Development Group (CDG), representing TELUS. Asif holds a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree with Honours from the University of Waterloo with a minor in Management Sciences.

CHAIR MITCH KETTRICK
Mitch Kettrick has more than 17 years of product development, testing, certification, sales, and marketing experience in the wireless telecommunications industry.  Most recently, he was the VP of Engineering at Sky Detective, a startup company that built custom tracking applications for the law enforcement industry.  Prior to that, Kettrick was the Director of Product Certification and interoperability Testing at NextWave, a mid-sized startup company in the WiMAX industry.  Mitch Kettrick was a founding member of the CDMA Certification Forum (CCF) where he spent two years as a member of the Board of Directors.  He was also the chairman of the CCF Certification Working Group.  Kettrick spent more than 7 years at Nokia Mobile Phones working on several product development programs.   Prior to working at Sky Detective, NextWave, Nokia and the CCF, he held various positions at Anritsu and the Boeing Company. Mitch Kettrick graduated magna cum laude from Gonzaga University in 1991 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1991 and he graduated as the valedictorian of his MBA program at Southern Methodist University in 1999.

Clive Wan,
Senior Business Development Manager for Aeroflex Asia Limited, is Chairman of the CCF Certification Working Group and is involved in both the lab authorization process and monitoring of the certification process, In his current role with Aeroflex, Mr. Wan builds and maintains relationships with key CDMA customers throughout the Asia-Pacific region; keeps his team up to date with the latest CDMA technology and market developments; and trains sales staff on how to maximize CDMA business opportunities.

BRUCE JOLLY - CCF GENERAL MANAGER
Bruce Jolly is the General Manager, as well as Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer of CCF. He has 20 years experience from different sectors of the telecoms industry, having worked and lived in Scandinavia, North America and the United Kingdom. Previous to his current role (which also includes liaison activities with other industry bodies, and work towards LTE standards) he worked as Business Director for Mobile Technologies at Aeroflex, a major multi-standard test equipment manufacturer, working on both 3GPP and 3GPP2 technologies. He worked for several years in the United States, as Senior Product Manager for several infrastructure projects, with Lucent Technologies and earlier, for Motorola. Prior to this, Bruce Jolly was a Project Manager on major fiber-optic cable-laying projects in Scandinavia and Northern Europe. Bruce has a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Robert Gordon's University in Aberdeen, Scotland.

 


DENNIS FU - CCF ASIA
Dennis Fu works for CCF as an Asia Pacific representative, focusing on business development in the APAC region in working with mobile operators, device vendors, testing labs and government agencies in the region.
 
Prior to working for CCF in 2007, Dennis was the director of wireless sales for Spirent Communications, in charge of wireless business development and sales management in China, Taiwan and Japan. Before joining Spirent in 2002, Dennis Fu worked at Qualcomm in San Diego for over 8 years holding various engineering and management positions in ASICs, field engineering, test engineering, and APAC business development. Mr. Fu also worked as engineer and project lead for Analog Devices in Norwood and Marine Research Institute in Shanghai.
Dennis Fu graduated from Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 1982 with a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, and received his master's degree in Electrical Engineering in 1990 from University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a MBA degree from the University of San Diego in 2000.
