CDMA CERTIFICATION
FORUMT (CCF) KICK-OFF MEETING EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
Representatives from numerous
industry leading companies converged in Hong Kong to
help develop a certification process for the worldwide
commercialization of CDMA handsets - August
16, 2004
HONG KONG, CHINA - August 16, 2004 - Motivated by a
common goal, representatives from more than 30 industry-leading
CDMA operators and mobile station vendors met in Hong
Kong, August 12 and 13, as part of the CDMA Certification
Forum (CCF) in order to work together towards
developing a certification process for the worldwide
commercialization of cdma2000® handsets.
A large and dynamic group of CDMA operators and mobile
station vendors, along with chipset manufacturers, test
solution providers, test laboratories, regulatory agencies
and others, spent two days at the Grand Hyatt in Hong
Kong working toward a global consensus on core CDMA
terminal features and functions; qualifying test facilities;
and to publish a certification process as well as to
publish test cases for features and functions.
Among those participating in a series of hands-on
forums to develop standards and processes regarding
the commercialization of CDMA handsets were representatives
from Telstra, KDDI, US Cellular, ViVo, China Unicom,
Reliance, TaTa, Hutchinson (CAT), Pelephone, PT Telekom,
Indosat, Nextel, LG Electronics, Nokia, Motorola, Kyocera,
Huawei, Openwave, Nortel Networks, Huawei, Institute
of Cellular Communication (Russia), NEWS IQ Labs, Wireless
Test Systems, PCTest, STMicroelectronics, VIA Telecom,
Qualcomm, Agilent, Aeroflex/Racal, TeleworX, Spirent
Communications, Innowireless, TestQuest, W2BI, and CDMA
Development Group.
There are 219 CDMA operators worldwide. The CCF was
created as a partnership by representatives from more
than a dozen industry-leading CDMA operators and mobile
station vendors to establish and maintain a global core
terminal certification process that will help ensure
terminal quality and network interoperability across
the globe.
The CCF members are comprised of four distinct groups:
The Steering Committee includes and is driven by the
CDMA system Operators and handset terminal vendors to
carry out the CCF's objectives. The Steering Committee,
which includes CDMA wireless system Operators; a Certification
Group that features representatives of certification
(regulatory) bodies; a Technical Group of terminal and
network test equipment experts; and a Vendor Group comprised
of device manufactures, infrastructure, terminal, and
test equipment manufacturers as well as CDMA test labs.
